Venus is the second planet in the Solar System and the second largest terrestrial world. It is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. It is also the second brightest object after the Moon, reaching a magnitude of -4.6. Venus is also called Earth's sister, mainly due to similar gravity, size and composition. However, Venus has the densest atmosphere of the four terrestrial planets, made almost entirely of sulfur and carbon dioxide and has clouds made of sulfuric acid. Venus is also believed to had oceans in the past, but the water evaporated due to a runaway greenhouse effect. Venus has two large continents called Ishtar and Aphrodite, which sit on lava seas, created by non-stop erupting volcanoes. Venus is mostley composed of volcanoes, along with highlands, mountains and plains.

Trivia

  • Venus is the only terrestial planet to rotate backwards.
  • Venus has the longest day of any planet: 243 days.
  • Venus is often referred to as Earth's twin.
